What is African-Centered Play Therapy?

African-Centered Play Therapy is a therapeutic modality that utilizes the benefits of play while centering and honoring the black experience of children, their families, and their community.

How is this different from play therapy?

Evaluates the racial beliefs and ideologies that are at the core of play therapy

Ensures therapy does

not reinforce

harmful racial

ideologies

Recognizes inclusion

limitations

and fills in the voids

The foundation of African-Centered Play Therapy is community.

Healing is not an individual experience for children. As such, parents are required to be active participants in the therapy process with their children. This will take place in family sessions with your child and/or one on one sessions with the therapist. We welcome your community and family into the space.

That’s when the healing begins!
